OneData Overview
OneData is a software platform for full lifecycle enterprise information management, governance and integration. It provides a feature-rich environment for the creation, enrichment and deployment of all shareable enterprise data including master data, reference data and metadata.
The OneData platform is the engine that powers numerous Data Foundations products and solutions, including the highly rated OneData MDM for Master Data Management and OneMeta MDR for metadata registries. OneData solutions manage all "shared enterprise data assets," and cover a wide range of business requirements and use cases such as data governance frameworks, Customer Data Integration (CDI) and product data management, hierarchy management and metadata management.
For example, a leading Consumer Products company uses OneData to manage product information for its marketing and supply chain functions. At another customer, a leading health insurer, OneData is the enterprise standard for reference data management, where it functions as the foundation of an enterprise-wide common data layer used by employees and applications. Yet another customer, one of the largest companies in the world, manages and distributes chart of account and organization hierarchies throughout the enterprise using OneData.
OneData's easy-to-use, configurable, browser-based front-end provides the ability to define and import your own data model into your solution, build the underlying structures to physicalize the model, manage data, and deploy the data and model to enterprise applications and users - both within the enterprise and externally. All of this occurs within the context of a centralized repository, providing built-in security, workflow, process flow, collaboration and change management capabilities - plus the ability to present information in multiple user interface formats and styles.
The platform feature set is truly comprehensive, and additionally, the architecture further enhances the out-of-the-box functionality of OneData in three major ways:
- First, the underlying data model (meta-model) can be easily extended or modified at any time, using the front-end or with your modeling tool. You can use your own model or adapt one of our templates.
- Second, the platform is fully integrated yet modular. You may substitute OneData functional modules with components from your enterprise landscape or toolset, such as your data modeling, ETL or reporting tool.
- Finally, you can extend the platform feature-set by integrating custom-developed functionality using OneData technology that essentially function as "user exits".
The numerous integration technologies and interfaces available in the platform, as well as the use of standards-based technology, allows easy integration into the enterprise landscape. The physical database structure is open and without any proprietary structures, making the repository accessible to any 3rd-party tool such as external reporting tools or ETL tools.
OneData can also manage data residing in external databases and applications. This, along with the integration, messaging and distribution capabilities, enables OneData to quickly become a central data hub -- a key component of enterprise information integration initiatives and the authoritative source of all enterprise non-transactional data.
